Crescendo Detroit's free after-school and summer programs nurture the whole child through music and dance, academics, social-emotional learning, financial literacy, life skills and mentorship—all within a culture of high expectations and excellence.
Young people see what's possible, but they're also given the support, experiences and preparation to understand what it takes—and do the work to get there.

Crescendo's young performers will prepare with a world-class music director whose career spans nearly two decades with Prince and collaborations with many of the industry's biggest icons. They'll work alongside some of Detroit's most accomplished artists—including Grammy-winning and nominated talent and international performers who have toured with Aretha Franklin and others.
They won't simply see what professional excellence looks like. They'll rehearse alongside it, experience what it requires—and step onto the stage of the historic Bonstelle Playhouse as the Opening Act of a professional live music production.

For us, music is the vehicle.
But the idea is bigger than music.
For those who know and love the music Morris Hayes helped create alongside Prince, legacy lives not only in the music, but in the standards passed from one generation to the next. Prince was known for his unwavering commitment to excellence and his expectation that everyone around him rise to it. Morris experienced that firsthand. Now he is passing it on to the next generation.
